My name is Barbara Ledford, and I am an innovative mathematics teacher at String Theory High School in Philadelphia, PA.
What makes String Theory a truly unique school is that it is 1:1 meaning all students are given an iPads. Their textbooks are collaborated by teachers through iTunes and they choose majors ranging from ballet to engineering. No paper, no pencils, no textbooks. I can still remember the motto on the first day of “Move towards the fear.”
During my time at String Theory, I have been able to really grow as an educator and not only share my passion with my students, but to my peers, and fellow educators. I have been afforded the opportunity to create and develop projects that push my student’s thinking, all well developing a solid mathematics base.
In my spare time, I love traveling around the world and experiences new cultures– especially food! Also, during the summer between conferences and workshops, I can be found reading on the beach.
